Vegas Schools Advance to USA National Cheer Championship
Liberty HS – Five Las Vegas area
schools have been awarded bids to the USA National cheerleading
championships taking place in Anaheim, Calif. on March
19 – 21.
In the junior high/middle school show
cheer competitions, K.O. Knudson Middle School finished
first and received a bid in the advanced category, while
Rogich Middle School finished finished first and received
a bid in the novice competition.
Centennial High School received two bids
for its coed group stunt performances. The team of John
Mele and Jillian Ferraro took second place and was awarded
a national bid. Meanwhile, the team of Nate Byers and Whitney
Greene took sixth, and despite point deductions was awarded
a bid to the national championship.
“It was pretty tough competition,” Byers
said. “The one arm [stunt] was the hardest part of
the performance. However, I am happy the judges saw the
difficulty and awarded us a bid to the USA National competition.”
In the big varsity show cheer advanced
competition, Bonanza High School finished fourth and Silverado
High School finished third, but both had strong enough
performances to advance to the national championship.
“We are excited to be going to Anaheim,” said
Kelcie Bundy from Bonanza High School.
The varsity show cheer advanced competition
was won by Snow Canyon High School from Utah with Dixie
High School from Utah finishing second.
