Fountain BMX Changes Operators
ED FOUNTAIN PARK – The American Bicycle Association’s
BMX track at Ed Fountain Park has changed operators, in
what the organization’s officials are saying could
spark a rebirth of the sport in Southern Nevada.
John David, the American Bicycle Association’s director
of new track development in Gilbert, Ariz. said the transfer
of operations at the Ed Fountain BMX track from Kenny Kane
to Joey Sanderson Hayes is a rather routine operation from
the turnover of volunteers.
“Kenny Kane moved to Hawaii and we have a very dedicated
person in Joey Sanderson Hayes operating the track,” David
said. “It happens a lot in the world of BMX because
operating a track is a lot of volunteering.”
The ABA works with a local government to locate a suitable
track site and then retains the leasehold on the location.
According to David, the ownership did not change, it was
only the operator. The ABA has been pretty pleased with
the energy Sanderson Hayes has brought to the main BMX
track in the Las Vegas Valley.
“Things have been getting better and rider counts
are up,” David said.
As for adding a new track for Southern Nevada BMXers,
David said there are no plans for the immediate future.
“Only time will tell,” he added.<more
